Planning for Floods:
Legendary Filmmaker to Show and Discuss Two Films

Planning for Floods a film by and discussion with legendary documentary film maker George C. Stoney, explores the faulty philosophy of the Army Core of Engineers in planning for catastrophic floods; together with the fabled 1938 film The River, explaining in epic “agitprop” style, the damaging national flood policy of that time. Composer Virgil Thomson provided the musical score for The River.

After the film presentations, Tom Williams, Post-Morrow Foundation VP and Co-Chair of the Carmans River Partnership, will discuss the results of the Carmans River Watershed Preservation Plan Study commissioned to understand the effect of large scale development now under consideration for acreage on the edge of the Carmans River in Yaphank.
